While NBC is gearing up for a full season of "Hannibal," based on Thomas Harris' famous fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter, Lifetime is now said to be moving forward with their own series based on one of the author's creations. TV Guide reports that the network is developing "Clarice," based on the central protagonist of The Silence of the Lambs, FBI Agent Clarice Starling.

"Clarice," which is wholly separate production from "Hannibal," will focus on a young Starling and her adventures fresh of out the FBI Academy.

The series centers on Kevin Corcoran, an Irish immigrant cop trying to keep the peace in the historical Five Points neighborhood in 1860s New York City while searching for information on the disappearance of his wife and death of his daughter. It explores the aftermath of the American Civil War as well as the social stratification involving New York's aristocracy and African American population.

Série créée par Tom Fontana pour BBC America, ça commence le 19 août.

Barbarella is going to be revamped, and for television no less. And Drive and Bronson director Nicolas Winding Refn is going to do it.

Deadline reports that Gaumont International Television, the same company that is behind Bryan Fuller’s new Hannibal TV show, is milking another movie property for television, and that it will use the sci-fi film as a basis. For Barbarella, Gaumont will work with producer Martha De Laurentiis and Refn, with Refn directing and exec producing. (Martha De Laurentiis is the daughter of Dino De Laurentiis, who produced the original film. She’s been working on the various film remake incarnations, too.)

In a statement, Refn called Barbarella “one of the ultimate counter-cultural characters.”

Un nouveau The Wire à Bruxelles pour HBO ?

HBO a donné son feu vert à l’écriture du pilote de la série « Buda Bridge Bitch ». Le belge Michaël R. Roskam, à qui l’on doit l’excellentissime « Tête de bœuf » (« Bullhead »), créateur de la série, en écrira ’la bible’ et le scénario du pilote dont il assurera la réalisation. Les producteurs exécutifs de la série sont le réalisateur Michael Mann (« Heat ») et le producteur Mark Johnson (« Breaking Bad »), deux icônes du monde du cinéma et de la télévision.


« Buda Bridge Bitch » dont l’action se déroulera dans un futur proche aura comme décor Bruxelles. Une femme mystérieuse sur le pont Buda, une série de crimes violents et des techniques de recherches inédites catapulterons la capitale de l’Europe dans un état de chaos total au plan éthique et politique.

Cette série de télévision s’annonce donc noire et futuriste. « J’ai eu la chance de pouvoir présenter mon idée à Michael Mann et Mark Johnson », explique Michaël R. Roskam. « Ils étaient tous les deux immédiatement très enthousiastes. Ensuite nous avons approché ensemble HBO à qui nous avons « vendu » la série. Il faut maintenant développer la bible - le concept et l’histoire - et écrire le pilote que je mettrai en scène dès que HBO aura donné son feu vert. Ensuite un collectif de scénaristes développera l’ensemble de la série. » Bref, ce n’est pas le travail qui manque(ra) pour le Belge qui sera également le coproducteur exécutif de cette série.

« Ce sont vraiment de fantastiques nouvelles », confirme Roskam, « mais nous devons garder les pieds sur terre. Je considère ceci comme le soutien au développement d’un scénario attribué par le Fonds Audiovisuel de Flandre (VAF). A présent, il s’agit d’écrire et de rester concentré. Il faudra encore surmonter beaucoup d’obstacles avant que Buda Bridge Bitch passera sur antenne. »

Michael Mann, Mark Johnson et Michaël R. Roskam se sont rencontrés pendant la cérémonie des Oscar en février 2012. Johnson est un des membres du ‘Board of Governors’ de l’Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) et y est responsable, entre autres, du comité des Oscar de films en langue étrangère. C’est Mann, dès le départ un grand admirateur et défenseur de « Tête de bœuf », qui, à la veille de la cérémonie, a remis à Roskam le certificat de sa nomination.
