"I would love to make a big film. But I didn’t have the clout and the leverage to make it and organize the production how I would do it. Because there are much, much more efficient ways to make a bigger move than the way the studios make them. That’s what David Fincher does. He’s earned the right to say, “You give me the money and let me put together the production, my producer and my people. And I will do it efficiently and put all the money on the screen.” He’s not the cowboy that people think he is. He works with the studio and they’re involved. It’s not like, “I’ll see you at the premiere.” But he gets to organize it as he wants to as a production to facilitate what he wants to get on the screen, not what suits the studio’s comfort level."

MTV got a chance to talk to Morgan Freeman during the recent RED junket and he confirmed rather clearly that Arthur C. Clarke's RENDEZVOUS WITH RAMA is still in the works.

Freeman: "That's a gotta be done movie. We just have to figure out how to do it. We've been trying for 15 years now to get a script, and you would think that it is easier than it is? It's not. It's really hard. (David) Fincher is still part of that conversation."

# The Game is coming to Blu-ray! Criterion is working on it right now. He’s been sent the first 3 reels to watch but hasn’t had the time yet to actually watch them. One of the big holdups is because Gramercy was purchased by Universal, Criterion has limited funds to work with. Also, he doesn’t like to revisit his movies, which delays the process.
# Talks about how he was going to do American Gangster when it was called Superfly. He thought the movie needed a budget close to 100 million dollars. The studio thought it should be 45. That obviously didn’t happen.
# Answers why he got a thank you in the credits of Wall-E
# On other future projects, he said that Chef is dead. He calls The Reincarnation of Peter Proud a “great script.” Confirms 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea will be in 3D, and he also talked about Rendezvous With Rama – which he hopes to do with Morgan Freeman.

Fincher: Yeah. 20,000 Leagues will be 3D.

This goes back to what I was saying a second ago. Basically this is what I wanted to ask you. Sony obviously envisions what you’re working on right now as a big franchise. Probably wants to make two or three movies. The question is, would you be able to, after you finish this first one, do something else?

Fincher: I believe that there’s a script that has to be written for the second movie. We have to have an audience that wants to see a second movie. We have to make room for another Bond movie. So there’s a lot of elements that come into play.

So I guess my final question is do you think 20,000 Leagues could be your next film?

Fincher: I think that there’s a lot of movies that could be my next film.

Ouais, Chef est mort on s'en doutait. 20 000 lieues va claquer, aucun doute, en plus il aura aucun soucis à avoir un bon budget pour le film, vu le succès assuré de la chose.

Tournage de Millenium 2&3 à la suite si le premier cartonne? A priori ça se dessine comme ça. Ca veut pas dire qu'il va pas confier ça à un autre réal.

J'aurai aimé qu'il lui cause de Fertig, moi...

The Game en criterion...Ben j'ai la haine vu que je pourrai pas l'avoir. Mais bon, je trouve mon dvd plutôt pas mal en fin de compte. Et je pense pas qu'il y ait plus de bonus que ce que l'édition Belge nous avait proposé.

Rama? Ben si le mois prochain il monte sur la scène pour cherche son chauve doré, si Millenium et 20000 lieues cartonnent, il va peut-être avoir de la latitude pour imposer ce genre de projet.

Après James Cameron et Paul Greengrass, le producteur Scott Rudin cherche apparemment à débaucher son pote de The Social Network et The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo pour réaliser le Cléopâtre en 3D écrit par Brian Helgeland avec Angelina Jolie toujours pour Columbia.

Non, David.

20 000 lieues sous les mers là.

PS : apparemment, Fincher est attaché à la suite de Dragon Tattoo.

Bah tant qu'à faire...ou alors faut un pur remplaçant, de manière à faire une franchise d'auteur.

Et un projet de plus qui vient s'allonger à la longue liste, ça pourrait le faire, mais je pense que Fincher a déjà traité ce/ces sujets et devrait se porter sur un de ses autres projets (NEMONMEMONEMONEMONEMO)

And talking of his directorial possibilities, he’s got plenty hanging around his office door, trying to attract his attention like cold Dickensian orphans, There’s the new take on Captain Nemo, TV dramas House of Cards and Mindhunter, and Cleopatra, which Angelina Jolie is bugging him about. Plus he may also decide to tackle The Girl Who Played With Fire once his work on Dragon Tattoo is done. Oh, and while we’re on the subject of the latter, two new posters have appeared online. Then he’s also committed to directing his 3D remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Additionally, screenwriter Steven Zaillian has already been hard at work on The Girl Who Played with Fire, and should Dragon Tattoo be a hit (which I’m fairly certain it will be), Sony will undoubtedly want to get the sequel moving as quickly as possible.

So, as you can see, the possibility of Fincher directing Cleopatra comes down to scheduling. Both Cleopatra and Dragon Tattoo are with Sony, the studio would most likely be willing to have Fincher do both films. However, if he chooses 20,000 Leagues as his next project and Sony wants to move forward with Cleopatra, he may have to step away. With Roth just now working on the script, one presumes that Fincher could fit another film in next year before moving on to Cleopatra.

The previous draft of the film was written by Brian Helgeland (LA Confidential, Green Zone, Robin des Bois), who adapted the story from Stacy Schiff’s bestselling book Cleopatra: A Life.

Bon, y a pas à chier, l'équipe serait prestigieuse, mais ça m'excite moins que 20 000 lieues sous les mers quand même...
Ca a vraiment l'air d'être commande sur commande là pour Fincher...
