Now we have word that World War Z 2 is still alive and kicking, straight from producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. The two revealed that not only is David Fincher is still attached to direct once again, but Brad Pitt is also back, and production is now slated to begin next summer.

Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner seem confident that World War Z 2 is happening, and their mention of a June 2019 production start lines up perfectly with David Fincher’s schedule. Currently, the filmmaker is shooting the second season of Mindhunter for Netflix, but he’ll be done with that in December before going into post-production, which will likely lead him right up to June next year. The same can be said for Brad Pitt, who is currently still busy shooting Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood but appears to have an opening in his schedule for next summer.

Sources close to the project for years, tell us that Paramount Pictures pulled the plug last night and director David Fincher‘s film is dead.

Budget, as is usually the case, was definitely an issue, but only to a degree. Fincher and his team were proposing something less than the budget of the original ($190 million according to Box Office Mojo, before the costly reshoots). However, Paramount’s known about this figure since at least last year and had hemmed and hawed about the project for months. One might think it not entirely coincidental that Paramount, that makes far fewer films than the average studio, just allotted a lot of money for two significant blockbusters—”Mission Impossible 7” & ‘8‘ that will arrive in the summer of 2021 and 2022, and just landed official release dates.

Paramount simply dragged their heels, at one point eyeing a 2018 or 2019 summer release dates, but never bold enough to put it back on the schedule.

Supra deg, j'avais vraiment envie de voir la vision de Fincher. Puis là ça veut dire pas de film de lui avant au moins 3/4 ans le temps qu'il trouve un projet, qu'il développe etc :(... Larchouma Paramount de très grands morts.

The Playlist says Fincher’s figure was below the first movie’s $190 million budget, sources close to the production tell Collider that Fincher’s budget was actually over that number. The same sources tell us that Fincher’s refusal to budge led to Paramount halting pre-production, and Fincher is now off the project. It’s conceivable that World War Z 2 could still happen with a different director at a lower budget as we’re told Pitt and Co. were happy with the script, but Paramount became uneasy with Fincher’s figure given that this is not only an R-rated sequel to a movie that came out six years ago, but a China release for the film is out of the question given the country’s ban on zombie-related content.

Cons de chinois.

Bon sinon, c'est la deuxième fois après Steve Jobs que Fincher se barre pour des questions de budget.

Ha dommage :(
Je connaissais pas les règles de censure chinoises ; ça laisse une large part à l'interprétation.

Le film va sortir dans 2-3 ans et on pourra pas s'empêcher d'imaginer ce que Fincher aurait pu en faire.
