1. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters aura une suite.
Paramount Pictures is now officially developing a sequel to this past January’s R-rated genre pic Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. You’d be forgiven for being a bit surprised at the news, as the film was a flop domestically with a total gross of just $54.6 million. However, overseas the film has now taken in over $150 million. Against a purported budget of $50 million, the pic’s worldwide gross of $205 million is apparently enough to justify moving forward with the follow-up, as Deadline reports that a sequel is now officially in development.
2. Le réal des pubs Lipton avec Jackman et Evian avec les bébés qui dansent réalisera le biopic d'Elton John écrit par le scénariste de Billy Elliott.
A director has finally been assigned to Rocket Pictures’ developing Elton John biopic Rocketman. Deadline reports that commercials director Michael Gracey has been tapped to take the helm of the film, which is being planned as a “radically different” kind of biopic. Billy Elliot scribe Lee Hall wrote the screenplay, and the film will be told in a non-linear, hyper-visual manner complete with choreographed sequences set to John’s classic songs. Gracey is a veteran of commercial directing, having helmed many musically-inclined spots including a Lipton ad with Hugh Jackman and Evian’s “dancing babies” spot.
There’s no word on who will play Sir Elton himself, but a search is currently underway to cast the child version of the singer. Gracey is also attached to direct a couple of other feature films including The Greatest Showman on Earth with Jackman set to star, and the Jim Henson biopic The Muppet Man.
3. Ben Affleck prend comme projet un film sur la guerre entre colons américains et troupes britanniques.
Warner Bros. has reportedly closed on a deal to adapt Nathaniel Philbrick’s upcoming book Bunker Hill: A City, A Siege, A Revolution with Ben Affleck tagged to possibly direct. Affleck will send the book to screenwriter Chris Terrio (Argo) which marks it as a substantial project moving forward. Affleck is currently busy adapting the Dennis Lehane novel Live By Night which he’ll direct, produce and star in. Bunker Hill will take Affleck back to New England to tell the story of the bloody clash between American colonists and British troops that united the colonies in their war for independence.
4. David Goyer refait Le Comte de Monte-Cristo.
David S. Goyer, best known for his recent DC contributions as a screenwriter for The Dark Knight Trilogy and the upcoming Man of Steel, is now set to direct a remake of The Count of Monte Cristo. In fact, the film is being pitched as a “19th Century Dark Knight” with a “graphic novel” approach to the script by Michael Robert Johnson (Sherlock Holmes), so make of that what you will.
5. McTiernan aurait un nouveau projet.
The director isn't giving up hope of gettingback behind the camera some day, and has been working for several months now on a script called Warbirds, inspired from the adventure films of George Roy Hill (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting). A very dear project for McTiernan, it tells the tale of a group of aerial firefighters who also lead a secret life during the winter. For the past few years, McTiernan had to give up on six different projects, as he was unable to get completion bonds from insurance companies. Let's all cross our fingers so that this one comes to pass.
