Paye ton ouverture avec explosion numérique (que j'aime beaucoup cependant), et surtout, l'immondissime climax sur fond vert.

Russell Crowe is seriously considering starring in and making his feature directorial debut in 77. The period cop movie has a script by David Matthews, a rewrite of an original screenplay by LA Confidential's James Ellroy. Dick Wolf and Tony Ganz are producing. Crowe has been itching to make his directing debut for years and this sounds like a dynamite premise. The drama connects two stories from 1974. It deals with the unsolved murder of an LAPD officer, and the nationally televised shootout in South Central L.A. between the Symbionese Liberation Army and the LAPD, where 50,000 rounds of gunfire were exchanged. The events will be seen through the eyes of two police partners, one black and one white. Crowe was attached to Bra Boys, the dramatic adaptation of the documentary about outlaw surfers in Australia, and before that flirted with directing the Australia-based WWII drama The Long Green Shore, based on the novel by John Hepworth. He's awaiting a rewrite of the 77 script to see if this one will be the charm. WME reps him and the agency reps Matthews with Schiff Company.

Tuesday afternoon in Hollywood, movie studios are bidding on a the rights to an as-yet-unwritten movie that would have Arnold Schwarzenegger return as the Terminator in a film directed by Justin Lin. According to Deadline, the package has several studios – including Universal, Sony and Lionsgate – salivating, even though it carries a hefty price tag of at least $25 million upfront against a purchase price around $36 million.

"Fast Five" already opened internationally last week and has not only been a massive hit, but has actually scored some of the best reviews of the series.

A big part of the reasoning behind that is the film opts for the framework of a heist movie, uses real stunts (CG is essentially invisible), and has a fully fleshed out gang of supporting characters. This broadens the appeal outside of its bread-and-butter car culture audience.

Now, Deadline reports that Universal Pictures is intent on continuing taking the franchise in this direction, calling "Fast Five" a "transitional movie" to expand the franchise into something altogether different.

How? By making the films less about street racing and shifting the focus so that "car driving ability [is] just a part of the movie, like those great chases in The French Connection, The Bourne Identity, The Italian Job" says Universal chairman Adam Fogelson. The article adds that Dwayne Johnson wants his character to appear in and be integral to the action in "Fast Six".

Fogelson adds that part of the appeal of this franchise is that "the business has gone so far towards CG action every weekend, that we really believe creating a movie with real action and real cars will be amazing stuff to people excited by seeing something real."

J'attends de voir le 5 mais je dis pourquoi pas...l'une des qualités du 4 c'était justement ce retour à une réa sans CGI...après, faut savoir se renouveller dans les courses-poursuites, là on en est déjà à 5 films pour une franchise qui n'avait pas lieu d'être.

What kicks this up past any other film in the series for me is the addition of Dwayne Johnson as Hobbs, head of a special international task force, assigned to bring in Dom and Brian. Johnson has never looked more ripped onscreen before, he's never spent an entire film dripping sweat like this, and he has rarely looked like he's enjoyed himself this much. He seems to relish every single cliche he gets to snarl, and he makes them work. From the moment he shows up, the film promises to put Hobbs and Dom in a room where they will have no option but to beat the holy hell out of each other, and sure enough, they get that opportunity. The film's fight choreography is outstanding all the way through, especially in the hand-to-hand moments, but when you've got Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson going mano-y-mano, you need to make it special, and they do.
