The picture is described as a “supernatural Black Hawk Down” but further plot details are being kept under wraps. We previously reported it as being a darker version of Ghostbusters with a more serious tone, featuring a contemporary, militaristic approach to fighting supernatural creatures; when evil ghosts take over Manhattan, a special ops group is brought in to take them down. As Variety confirms, Mathieu is also attached to direct Story of Your Life and Warner Bros.’ Robotech adaptation.

- Forrest Whitaker sera Martin Luther King dans Memphis de Paul Greengrass.

Memphis has been brewing for a few years now, but has had trouble gaining traction. Universal pulled out in 2011 due in part to scheduling and financing issues. The disapproval of the King estate didn’t seem to have helped matters, either; the family was reportedly against Greengrass’ film because it paints a picture of the King that isn’t entirely flattering. They are currently developing an unrelated project with DreamWorks.

Greengrass and Rudin then moved on to another fact-based drama, Captain Phillips, before circling back to Memphis and deciding to make it as an indie. While no start date or release date has been announced yet, Memphis looks likely to be Greengrass’ next directorial effort. According to a source who spoke with TheWrap, Greengrass will take the same “docu-style” approach he used in United 93.

Greengrass’ script for Memphis portrays King toward the end of his life as he struggles with his personal life, including the breakdown of his marriage, and faces fears about the future of America and his own career. Meanwhile, he’s planning what turns out to be his final protest in Memphis. It was while there that the civil rights leader was shot and killed by James Earl Ray in 1968.

Oh putain! La carrière américaine de Denis Villeneuve est définitivement lancé avec ce film. On dirait les débuts de David Fincher. Et j'ai toujours trouvé qu'il tient le meilleur de Spielberg pour sa mise en scène ultra nerveuse. Je sens que se sera un des prochains grands réals. Quand on sait qu'il rêve de faire de la science-fiction, je crois bien qu' il en aura les moyens bientôt. Wow!

Désolé. Je suis de près sa carrière depuis ses tout débuts. Je l'avais rencontré en 97 pour la sortie de son premier film. Mec très cool, d'une humilité incroyable. Étonnant qu'il voit aussi grand. Je ne peux m'empêcher de m'émouvoir là. Et j'aime ce qu'il fait. C'est totalement ma came.
