Warner Bros. Pictures has made the decision to release “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1” in 2D, in both conventional and IMAX theaters, as we will not have a completed 3D version of the film within our release date window. Despite everyone’s best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality.

Respect.

It always is.

Having just witnessed the long awaited "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 1" it's fair to say director David Yates has continued his fine work of bringing a more sophisticated, stylish and modern view of the fantastical world of everyone's favorite young wizard to the big screen. Yates' experiences on "Order of the Phoenix" and "Half-Blood Prince" have served him well as it's clear his handle on the franchise is growing just in time for its final chapter. Overall, "Deathly Hallows" should be judged as the best "Potter" since Alfonso Cuaron's "Prisoner of Azkaban," but we'll know more when "Part 2" hits theaters in July, 2011.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 is as close to the book as any fan could hope for. While there are some changes (it is a movie after all), many of the scenes played out exactly as I envisioned them while reading the final installment. But to me, the best part was having the time to not rush through scenes because of the limits of a two and a half hour movie. As you watch Deathly Hallows – Part 1, you’ll notice is moves at a different pace than the previous movies. And I liked it. A lot. I will say…when the credits started rolling, I wished Part 2 was being released tomorrow. At least we only have to wait till next summer.

As the three teenage wizards enter the wilderness to do battle with Lord Voldemort, director David Yates spins the series' most expansive, structurally free-form chapter yet -- lumbering and gripping by turns, and suffused with a profound sense of solitude and loss. Having made it this far, the Potter faithful won't be deterred by "Part 1's" bleak, inconclusive tenor, spelling phenomenal returns and raising expectations for a truly spectacular finish.

The first and third acts are over-busy; the middle one moves like an arthritic house-elf. Still, a decent smattering of magic moments and tension’s pumped up sky-high. Bring on Part 2.
