Alex Proyas ("The Crow," "I, Robot") will direct "Dracula Year Zero," Universal's origins tale about Vlad the Impaler and one of several films about the Romanian royal who inspired Bram Stoker's vampire tale. Scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless tell Variety that the goal was to show Vlad when he was still vital and to explore the fact that he's considered a hero in Romania for fending off the Turks. The aim was too play off the horror and the sympathy you have for a character that "sells his soul to the Devil to save his kingdom and family." Michael De Luca produces. A-t-on vraiment besoin d'un énième film sur le personnage? Avec la fausse bonne idée d'une "origin story"? Et Proyas, il a rien de mieux à foutre? Fuck this. |

Moi du moment que personne vient me chourer mon idée de film sur la Scholomance, je suis content. Descriptif Wikipedia (je t'en avais parlé une fois Freak): The Scholomance was a mythical school of black magic said to have been run by the Devil. It was supposedly located near an unnamed lake in the mountains south of the city of Hermannstadt (called Sibiu in Romanian) in the Transylvania region of Romania. Une description tirée d'un vieux livre sur les superstitions en Transylvanie: As I am on the subject of thunderstorms, I may as well here mention the Scholomance, or school supposed to exist somewhere in the heart of the mountains, and where all the secrets of nature, the language of animals, and all imaginable magic spells and charms are taught by the devil in person. Only ten scholars are admitted at a time, and when the course of learning has expired and nine of them are released to return to their homes, the tenth scholar is detained by the devil as payment, and mounted upon an Ismeju (dragon) he becomes henceforward the devil's aide-de-camp, and assists him in 'making the weather,' that is, in preparing thunderbolts. A small lake, immeasurably deep, lying high up among the mountains south of Hermanstadt [sic], is supposed to be the cauldron where is brewed the thunder, and in fair weather the dragon sleeps beneath the waters. Et donc Bram Stoker a repris ce truc pour en faire l'école où Dracula a appris ses dark arts: The Draculas were, says Arminius, a great and noble race, though now and again were scions who were held by their coevals to have had dealings with the Evil One. surtout que les origines du personnage ont déjà été explorées avec brio dans la version de Coppola |

Moi ça me branche bien. Le personnage est assez fascinant et de voir justement comment il a glissé de héros national à démon m'intéresse vachement. Après, je sens que ça va être kitch comme les 3/4 des films du genre... |

Et finalement, ce sera réalisé par Gary Shore, dont ce sera le premier film, avec Luke Evans dans le rôle-titre. |
