Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe are circling Shane Black's noir film.

Joel Silver is producing via his Silver Pictures banner and will be shopping the project to studios and independent financiers in the coming days, as various development executives have been closely tracking “Nice Guys.”

Black and Anthony Bagarozzi wrote “The Nice Guys” years ago, but the project has been languishing in development until recently gaining new momentum.

Set in smoggy 1970s Los Angeles, story follows Jackson Healy (muscle-for-hire, recovering alcoholic) and Holland March (private eye, practicing alcoholic), who are brought together by the suicide of a fading porn star. However, the dead girl's aunt is convinced she saw her niece alive and well after the highly publicized incident. March needs money, takes the case, and within days, it's blossomed into a far-reaching murder conspiracy, bizarrely rooted in smog and the U.S. auto industry.

Angourie Rice and Margaret Qualley are joining Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe in the Warner Bros crime thriller, which is being directed by Shane Black. Joel Silver is producing. The script, which Black co-wrote with Anthony Bagarozzi, tells of a private detective (Gosling) and jaded racketeer (Crowe) who must team up to find a missing actress in the scuzzy, seedy and smoggy side of 1970s LA. In a breakthrough role for the young Australian, Rice will play Gosling’s daughter who likes to occasionally tag along with her dad. Qualley portrays a social activist who resembles a porn star named Misty Mountains. The role is a breakthrough for the actress, who is part of HBO’s ensemble show The Leftovers and will be making her first feature film appearance with Nice Guys.
