Le projet maudit :

It’s case closed for the Trial of the Chicago 7.

The Amblin Partners drama that was to be directed by Aaron Sorkin has been shut down.

Sources say that budgetary concerns forced the company to pull the plug on the feature project, which was in pre-production and heading toward a February 2019 start.

Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne and Jonathan Majors were on board to star in the drama about anti-war activists such as Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin and Tom Hayden, who were accused by the federal government of conspiracy and incitement to riot because of the protests surrounding the 1968 Democratic National Convention.

Amblin insiders say the company remains committed to project and will, with Sorkin, regroup and redevelop it.

La dernière phrase de l'espoir.

EDIT :

Amblin is still very much involved but insiders say the balancing act of casting the ensemble and getting his play ready was becoming tough to juggle and both parties felt he should focus on the play and return to casting the rest of film at top of 2019.

Sources say Sorkin is focusing on his play “To Kill a Mockingbird,” which opens Thursday, while the studio figures out how to move forward on the film. Amblin released a statement on Wednesday saying they are still involved and are giving Sorkin time to finish work on his play.

“Aaron just adapted ‘To Kill a Mockingbird,’ which is premiering on Broadway this Thursday. He is currently evaluating his schedule and commitments to determine the best time and way to make ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7.’ Amblin remains involved as a producer,” Amblin said in a statement.

The studio had already hired Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Jonathan Majors to star, while Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were being eyed for possible roles.

C'est reparti! Avec confirmation du cast!

Eddie Redmayne as Tom Hayden
Sacha Baron Cohen as Abbie Hoffman
Seth Rogen as Jerry Rubin
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Richard Schultz
Jonathan Majors as Bobby Seale
Alex Sharp as Rennie Davis

“Succession” star Jeremy Strong has found his next feature film project with Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” sources tell Variety.

Strong is set to play Jerry Rubin, an American social activist, anti-war leader, and counterculture icon who was instrumental in organizing the protest during the convention. His casting in the historical drama follows the news that the long-awaited film is finally moving forward with Paramount Pictures on board for domestic distribution and Cross Creek signing on to produce and co-finance alongside Amblin Partners.

Et il y a quelques jours :
Frank Langella has agreed to play US District Court Judge Julius Hoffman, who presided over the trial, and Mark Rylance will play William Kuntsler

Y'a aucune logique.

Finalement, Keaton is back!

Michael Keaton and William Hurt have joined the ensemble cast of Aaron Sorkin’s “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”

Keaton will play Ramsey Clark, the attorney general to President Lyndon Johnson, and Hurt will play John Mitchell, the attorney general to President Richard Nixon.

It will open in limited release on Sept. 25, 2020, and expand into more theaters on Oct. 2, 2020.
