On verra.

The Hollywood trades have confirmed Thursdays' report that Jim Carrey will play Ebenezer Scrooge, the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Future in A Christmas Carol, an adaptation of the Charles Dickens tale that Robert Zemeckis wrote and will direct for Walt Disney Pictures.

Zemeckis will shoot the film using "performance capture/Disney digital 3-D" animation, a continuing evolution of techniques he introduced in The Polar Express and continues with the upcoming Beowulf.

A Christmas Carol will also feature a touch of live action and computer graphics, the latter of which ImageMovers employed in the Gil Kenan-directed Monster House.

Zemeckis wrote the script specifically with Carrey in mind and the actor said yes straight away.

The previous report said that Bob Hoskins would reteam with his Who Framed Roger Rabbit director to play Mr. Fezziwig, but the studio denied that any deal had yet been made with him.

As I hear it, Robert has reportedly written roles in this film for three of his other favorite actors. And if all goes according to plan (More importantly, if Disney can actually meet each of these actors' salary demands), Tom Hanks will play Bob Cratchit, Christopher Lloyd will portray Marley's Ghost and Michael J. Fox will voice Tiny Tim.

Now I know that that last casting idea may sound really off-the-wall. But let's remember that this version of "A Christmas Carol" is going to be a performance capture picture. And given that -- in theaters all over America today -- John Travolta is appearing in a movie where he plays a 300-pound woman ... Well, in Hollywood, anything's possible.

Getting back to "A Christmas Carol" now ... It's important to keep in mind that Hanks, Lloyd & Fox (as well as Mr. Hoskins) are allegedly just on Zemeckis' casting "Wish List." So while he's already supposedly spoken informally with all of these performers about possibly appearing in this project, it's still up to Disney & the actors' agents to work out all of the necessary details before Tom, Christopher, Michael J. & Bob can all officially come on board this film.

A Christmas Carol is set for a Christmas 2009 release and features Jim Carrey as Ebeneezer Scrooge as well as the ghosts of past, present and future. In production now, the film is being shot with the same motion-capture technology that director Robert Zemeckis used on Beowulf and The Polar Express.

Says Carrey of the motion-capture shooting experience:

"You're literally in an empty warehouse with cameras around you and you have maybe an empty frame of a fireplace or something like that. You rehearse and they say, 'Can we take this away?' and your let sitting in a chair. You have to create an entire world in your head. And not only that, but you're working with other actors in this ridiculous mocap suit with balls all over it and a hat with pincers that come down with cameras in your face... The real work of it is transcending the lack of all stimuli and the ignoring the stimuli right in front of your face."

The story, he promises, will stay very true to the original book by Charles Dickens. "It's kind of a classical version of A Christmas Carol," says Carrey, "I'm playing Ebeneezer Scrooge at four different ages so there's a lot of vocal and physical things I have to do. Not to mention doing the accents properly.

Tout ça pour dire que le film est en tournage donc.

Quelques infos supplémentaires :

- A Christmas Carol is full of Jim Carrey humor: Lots of yelling, screaming and facial expressions.
- He plays 4 characters at least - Scrooge and the ghosts. This is not new info of course, but confirmed.
- Michael J. Fox is DEFINITELY in the movie. He has plenty of lines that are pure Fox humor - always down on himself, and very SARCASTIC. My source did not pass on what role he is playing however.
- Jim Carrey does A LOT of improvisation here. This is to be expected, but now it has been confirmed by a source. Apparently this improvisation has been a part of the movie since it was written! This openness to creativity has all been approved and made to happen by Zemeckis. Good on you Bob! They have a lot of confidence in Carrey and justifiably so. The guy cracks me up - always has.

Et maintenant ce qui fait peur :

- There are NO CRATCHITS in this movie! The movie deviates from the original Dickens classic in favor of some very funny scenes involving Jim Carrey - and others...
- The storyline is of course very funny but also heartwarming.
- SANTA CLAUS IS IN IT. He wears - get this - a red and PURPLE Santa suit!
- My source heard John Goodman could be the actor in this role but he was NOT sure, so do not count on this. Only count on seeing Santa Claus in it.
- You can expect the REINDEERS to talk! Yep. Apparently Rudolph doesn't like Blitzen and they all have very unique voices.
- Santa and the reindeer don't have a very big impact on the film as far as storyline goes, but you can expect this part to be HILARIOUS. It's more like a cameo appearance :-)

Et bien si.
Le rôle de Gary Oldman c'est justement Bob Cratchit ET son fils Tiny Tim.

Du coup, ça remet en question tout ce que ce mec a dit...
