L'improbabilité absolue.

After losing director J.A. Bayona to the “Jurassic World” universe, Brad Pitt is zeroing in on an old friend for the “World War Z” sequel.

Sources have told Variety that Pitt, along with Paramount and Skydance, is in talks with David Fincher to direct the sequel to his 2013 smash hit.

Pitt, who’s returning to star in and produce the “World War Z” follow-up, recently met with a handful of other directors, but is said to be zeroing in on Fincher for the project, which is expected to start filming in early 2017.

Skydance and Paramount had no comment on the development.

According to sources, Fincher and Pitt met two weeks ago to discuss the possibility of Fincher boarding the zombie tentpole. The talks were initially lukewarm but sources now tell Variety negotiations are much further down the road and no one else currently has the offer to direct.

A Fincher-Pitt reunion on “World War Z 2” would mark their fourth film together, having previously collaborated on “Se7en,” “Fight Club” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”

Fincher hasn’t directed a feature film since 2014’s “Gone Girl.” The filmmaker has been turning his attention to television as of late. He recently shot the pilot of the Netflix drama “Mind Hunters.”

The notoriously tedious filmmaker, who is weary of sequels, having aired his displeasure during his time on “Alien 3,” has always been open to listening when Pitt reaches out, sources say. The duo nearly worked together on a reboot of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” for Disney a few years ago but that collaboration never materialized.

Paramount’s “World War Z” sequel was previously dated to open June 9, 2017. After losing Bayona, however, the studio is expected to delay the film’s release.

Rappel :

Film Freak a écrit:
When last we reported on the adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel Gone Girl, it was to say that Reese Witherspoon would produce the 20th Century Fox acquisition. Now it sounds like director David Fincher (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) is in talks to helm. The book centers on a man whose wife disappears on their fifth wedding anniversary, only to have all roads point to him as the woman’s killer. Author Flynn is also handling the screenplay adaptation. There is no word on whether Witherspoon would also star.

The original World War Z deviated significantly from the source novel. That being said, the upcoming sequel has reportedly always been about deviating from the story of the original. Earlier this year it was reported that the sequel would differ from the original film in a major way, and much of that had to do with the likelihood that the filmmakers would adapt more stories from the novel – which is structured as an oral history of a zombie war that has already taken place.

Top 2017 :
1 - World War Z 2 (David Fincher)
