Le Lun Oct 26, 2009 Film Freak a écrit: Shane Black revient! Il écrit en ce moment une adaptation des aventures du héros de pulps Doc Savage qui sera produit par Alex Kurtzman et Roberto Orci. A Doc Savage project has long been in development hell; mooted as an Arnie vehicle a decade ago. A classic "adventurer", the character stems from the pulp magazines of the 30s and 40s. Described by principle writer Lester Dent as a cross between Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan and Abraham Lincoln, Clark Savage Jr was trained as a youth by a team of scientists who made him practically superhuman: the colour of his skin, eyes and hair lent him the alias The Man of Bronze. He appeared in getting on for 200 novels between 1933 and 1949 (not to mention a handful in the 1990s), plus comics, a radio series, and a camp low-budget George Pal movie in 1975. According to Black, his script will be firmly set in the 30s, from which he believes Savage is "inseparable", and will be an original story that "attempts to encapsulate the feeling of the whole collection of Lester Dent's work". He'll also be including the Doc's backup team The Fabulous Five: a chemist, a lawyer, an archaeologist, a builder, and an electrician. Et bien c'est relancé! Steve asked Black about the project, and the filmmaker confirmed that he’s still attached: “Well Doc Savage is proceeding on pace. I mean we’ve got to try to set a deal now to go back into that, so as Iron Man wound down I sort of reconnected with Sony who have been gracious to say, ‘We’ll wait a year and sit on these rights until you’re finished with this other picture that we don’t control.’ So they were really cool about it, they were really nice. So yeah I’m back on it.” Even more promising, producer Neal Moritz added that Black is “100%” still writing and directing Doc Savage, with the aim for it to be the filmmaker’s next project. While it didn’t really seem likely that the Doc Savage character would be transported to modern day, Black confirmed that his film will indeed take place in the 1930s and he also talked a bit about the tone and sensibility of the pic: “We’re shooting it as though it’s in the 30s, including all the Capra-esque elements of 1930s films like You Can’t Take It With You. The idea of ‘What if Jimmy Stewart were a stone-cold killer?’ basically. It’s that kind of combination which we enjoy.” |

J'aime beaucoup les couvertures aux couleurs glauques faites par James Bama.  Il y a un bon potentiel pulp/aventure. Parcontre vu que je n'en ai jamais lu, je ne sais pas si l'image que je m'en fais correspond vraiment, surtout quand je lit ca: Film Freak a écrit: The idea of ‘What if Jimmy Stewart were a stone-cold killer?’ basically. It’s that kind of combination which we enjoy.” J'avais l'impression d'un héros plus sombre et badass. Quelqu'un en a déja lu? C'est bien? |

J'avais lu un roman de Doc Savage ouais, dans un omnibus que j'avais choppé dans une petite librairie. Je n'en ai aucun souvenir ou presque. Le mec est badass, mais a une équipe aussi, ça se lit vite, et c'est pas désagréable, mais souvent un peu vieillot. Ca rappelle un peu Nick Fury, ceux écrits à l'époque par Steranko, mais en moins bien. Après, gros potentiel pour une revision je pense. Si ça te dit, lis les Planetary de Ellis et Cassaday, pour le coup, c'est vraiment bien, et le perso de Savage est repris (malgré un changement de nom, par souci de droits) |

The project is still a priority for Sony Pictures, but budgetary issues are making it unclear when it would actually shoot. Black has met with Chris Hemsworth for the title role. Cool! |

" 'Doc Savage' is sort of in the ether now. We're hoping to make it sometime next year. I would very much like to do 'Doc' with a fellow named Dwayne Johnson if we can make that work. I made a decision that Dwayne is the guy. It's on the back burner while he's busy," Black said. C'EST OUI. |

C'est édité en France sous le titre Tom Strong Planétary et je crois avoir lu quelque part que Tom Strong était largement inspiré de Doc Savage... Edit : je viens de lire sur Wiki que dans la série d'Ellis et Cassaday, le personnage d'Axel Brass est inspiré de Doc Savage. Sorry... |

Tom Strong aussi est inspiré de Doc Savage, mais les Planetary de Ellis et Cassaday reprennent dans chaque issue un ou plusieurs éléments de la culture pulp ou comics et le balancent dans leur univers. Un équivalent de Doc Savage, appelé Doc Brass est retrouvé par l'équipe qu'on va suivre pendant le film dans le premier ou deuxième issue:

Du coup, je relis les Planetary, et c'est du vraiment très bien, meilleur que dans mon souvenir, sûrement parce que j'ai accumulé moi même des références auxquelles Ellis fait allusion. |

C'EST OUI. "We need a lead character and we’ve been pursuing a guy who says he’s very interested in doing it, he’d like to do it, and that’s Dwayne Johnson. I think he’d play a terrific Doc. Here’s the problem. He’s really busy, so before I got to him, he’s got three movies lined up, so the fact that we had to wait is effectively what got me doing The Predator, cause I would have liked to do Doc but then that came along and I said, ‘Sure, great, good timing because we’re waiting for Dwayne Johnson to stop doing movies so we can get him for our movie, and hopefully that will be the next one.” Ce n'est donc pas juste un souhait mais une probabilité. Putain, Dwayne Johnson dans un rôle iconique avec des répliques de Shane Black. |
