Brokeback mountain bis?

Non, j'y crois pas. Le manque d'amour pour King's speech est partout là...Le film n'est parfois même pas dans les listes...Là, tout le monde sent venir le truc, les films ont été vu, le buzz de true grit et King's speech est en train de crever de lui-même, et les prix de la critique sont là pour montrer qui est encore debout. Toy Story 3 est clairement dans la case animation, Inception récupère des petites choses, mais bon...

Après, t'as Gold Derby qui dit que c'était acquis pour le Fincher, que ça veut rien dire...Mais limite y aurait du partage, je dirais pas. Là t'as un film populaire (90 millions $, 8,3 sur IMDB...), carton critique (score historique sur metacritic...) qui rafle tous les trophées. Faut pas déconner, le film est devenu en quelques jours l'ultra favori, limite tout seul.

Variety reports that four films (that's not a misprint, four) have been disqualified from the original score category this season. As expected, "Black Swan," by Clint Mansell and "True Grit," by Carter Burwell, didn't make the cut because they use too much pre-existing material intertwined within the score. "Swan" features many cues from Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" and "Grit" includes a number of 19th century hymns. More surprising were the disqualifications for "The Kids Are All Right" and "The Fighter."

"Kids" is another Burwell creation and "Fighter" is by veteran Michael Brook. What they both have in common is that the Academy has deemed them "diminished by in impact by the predominant use of songs." Basically, too many songs on the soundtrack were seen as making the film's score seem secondary.

le FYC qui calme...

Le carton de True Grit pourrait relancer la course.

Alors que King's speech fait un peu fallot maintenant (absence totale de prix de la critique dont il avait a priori besoin), c'est le film des frères Coen qui vient chatouiller le film de Fincher. Fort d'un gros succès en salle, d'un excellent accueil critique, le remake des Coen apparait un peu comme le cheval à battre.

Scott Rudin, producteur de true grit et social network, est donc à nouveau le roi des oscars, comme l'année de No country vs There will be blood...Cette année là, c'était les Coen qui l'avaient emporté.

Le problème reste que pour beaucoup, Social Network ne peut pas gagner, du fait de sa "froideur", de son manque d'émotion et du côté "facebook".

Reste que Metacritic vient de publier une nouvelle preuve accablante: Social Network est définitivement le gagnant pour la critique. Mais ça ne donne pas nécessairement un oscar...

Les 8 autres sont des sûrs de chez sûrs, a priori. Et c'est clair qu'aucun n'a l'air d'un vilain voleur (bon, king's speech, s'il va au bout...)

Did the Brits listen to Julia Roberts plea or do they just like the movie more than those of us on this side of the pond? In either case, nice coup for the "Biutiful" crew.

Lowdown: Well, this is clearly not what Paramount wants. They are hoping voters place "Grit's" Hailee Steinfeld in the supporting category as SAG voters did, but BAFTA said "Nope, she's clearly lead" (O.K. they didn't say that literally, but you get my point). More intriguing, Noomi Rapace pushes past "Blue Valentine's" Michelle Williams, "Winter's Bone's" Jennifer Lawrence and "Never Let Me Go's" Carey Mulligan for an Acting nod. There is no way she'll duplicate that feat when Oscar nods are announced next Tuesday. A bigger shocker? "Rabbit Hole's" Nicole Kidman bypassed for Julianne Moore for "The Kids Are All Right." Clearly BAFTA voters really took to "Kids," but not enough to land it a best picture nomination.

On the other hand, the Pete Postlethwaite nomination is clearly of sentimental value after the legendary actor's recent passing. Jeremy Renner will easily fill that slot when the Academy announces its nominations.

Lowdown: Intriguingly, the Brits did not take to Melissa Leo's campy, but Golden Globe-winning turn in "The Fighter." Instead, they recognized Adams who might actually win this category. Richardson and Manville are awards season contenders who sort of fell to the wayside back in the states. Hershey gets the BAFTA love here over co-star Mila Kunis who landed Globe and SAG nominations. We're still betting Oscar goes for Kunis.
